Committee Introduction

The United Nations Peacebuilding Commission (PBC) is an intergovernmental advisory body established in 2005 to support peacebuilding in countries emerging from conflict. Its mission is to prevent a relapse into conflict through strategic assistance, coordinating external support, and mobilizing resources for sustainable peacebuilding. The PBC addresses such issues as governance, justice, security sector reform, socioeconomic development, and ex-combatant reintegration. The PBC, made up of 31 states members from various UN organizations and major donors, works in close cooperation with governments at the national, regional, and inter-regional levels, as well as civil society. At Model UN conferences, the PBC encourages delegates to develop sustainable peace strategies and collaborate on difficult post-conflict challenges.
