Letter from Secretary General

Meritorious participants of BoğaziçiMUN Advanced 2025,
It is with warm hugs, sincerity and utmost privilege to welcome you all to this edition of BoğaziçiMUN Advanced. I’m Selin Ayaz, a senior Double Major of Political Science & International Relations and Sociology at Boğaziçi University. Having four years of university Model UN experience (alongside 5 years prior) under my belt, I will be serving as your Secretary-General.

For this version of BoğaziçiMUN, both of our teams have worked from day to night to give you the best experience ever. I would first like to thank my amazing Deputy-Secretaries-General, Maya Gençdiş and Emir Elhatip, for their continuous effort and clever wit. Another person that I’m thankful for is our esteemed Director-General, Irem Ayber. She and our Deputy-Director-General Azra Çökük are some of the most hardworking people I’ve known, they are tireless in their work and you will get to experience the fruits of their labour when we meet in September.

I was in high school when I first attended BoğaziçiMUN’s first edition. The founders of our club were my seniors then. Ever since, beside my time abroad making it impossible to attend anything, I haven’t missed a session. I’ve seen some of the kindest and smartest people I’ve ever known hold positions of power in this club. We’ve taught each other things, fell down, learned things the hard way, and alwaus came back stronger than 90s trends together. I’ve quite literally experienced our legacy and history firsthand. I’ve always found the phrase “We are a family here” very cliché, but during my time at BoğaziçiMUN I felt like the middle child of a very rooted, influential family. This tells you about the kind of legacy we have here. This edition of BoğaziçiMUN will celebrate just this.

We’ve prepared 9 different committees covering a wide range of topics. Some of them are ones we’ve covered before, and some are brand new for us. This celebrates both our creativity and our roots. The twist is, each of our committees also celebrate the legacy of one of our previous Secretaries-General and Club Coordinators. These are the same ones who have built our community brick by brick. Some of these people, despite swearing they have retired, will come back to continue to hold the torch forward, and some will grace us with their shadows with what they have given us so far.

Whatever the committee is, a great learning atmosphere and the best experience ever is going to be guaranteed for you. And you, our esteemed participants, will grace us with your attendance and become one with our legacy. As you do each year, you will navigate various hardships in the committee, write important documents, make one of a kind speeches, sign placards, meet your fellow delegates, have fun in coffee breaks and eat unlimited candy, go back to the session after what felt like a second of a proper break, and continue to work hard. Without you, the conference would not be the same.

We’ve always used the phrase “Bridging the Gap” as our motto. This year, we are combining this with the legacy. Each edition of BoğaziçiMUN has been about providing our participants with the best experience they’ve ever had so far. Each time, we try to outdo ourselves and become the best version so far. This edition has been no different as all of us have vigorously and tirelessly worked so far. Now the ball is in your court. I invite you all to take a step forward and feel the legacy.
