Committee Description
We would like to welcome you all to the Boğaziçi Model United Nations conference, featuring the General Assembly’s Sixth Committee: LEGAL. This committee offers delegates a debate platform primarily into legal matters and is the primary forum for the consideration of international law and other legal matters concerning the United Nations. You, delegates, will try to explore key issues on international legal issues, promote the rule of law, and address the pressing global changes. Delegates will be investigating the legalization of drugs for therapeutic and recreational purposes in this year of BoğaziçiMUN, trying to understand advantages and disadvantages of legalization with the cases around the world and try to offer an optimal solution for the world. Another important matter, the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine will be discussed. The doctrine is advocated by the United Nations General Assembly in 2005 to prevent genocide, war crimes, and any kind of crime against humanity. This year, we will be discussing the execution of the doctrine on legal grounds and how we could carry this doctrine to the future generations. Participants will have the opportunity to debate key topics, propose resolutions, and collaborate on innovative solutions that uphold justice and equity in the international community.
