Committee Description

Held in July 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York, the Seneca Falls Convention is considered as many things: some see it as one important step among many others in the continuing effort by women to gain for themselves a greater proportion of social, civil and moral rights; for others it’s a revolutionary beginning of the struggle by women for complete equality with men; but one thing is certain in the sense that it’s considered to be the beginning of the women's rights movement. Fundamentally, the Convention launched the women’s suffrage movement, which more than seven decades later ensured women the right to vote. The -mostly women- attendees, over a timespan of 2 days, fought for the social, civil and religious rights of women; and the convention was followed by many others throughout the country. In this edition of BoğaziçiMUN, Seneca Falls attendees will be coming up with the Seneca Falls Convention and will be discussing vital liberties such as women’s right to vote and women’s role in society, alongside issues such as race and lower-class women. With a modern twist, it’s now your chance to rewrite history and lay down the basics for the women’s rights movement.
